The Church of the Good Shepherd dates to 1950 and is now one of over 100 worshipping communities of the Episcopal Diocese of Atlanta. Serving Christ's mission of love, mercy, peace, justice, and reconciliation throughout North Georgia and beyond, the Diocese is a constituent member of The Episcopal Church ( www.episcopalchurch.org). TEC and the other churches historically descended from the Church of England make up the Anglican Communion of around 85 million believers in 165 countries worldwide (www.anglicancommunion.org).
Our worship follows an ancient pattern and is characterized by dignity, beauty and reverence. Each Sunday our worship (referred to as the Holy Eucharist, simply meaning 'holy thanksgiving') centers on the sacrament of Holy Communion (the Lord's Supper).
On Sunday mornings there are two opportunities for worship. Children and youth are welcome at either, though a nursery is provided for children under five years, should parents desire it, beginning at 10:00 a.m.
8:00 a.m. - "Said" (spoken) Holy Eucharist using traditional language (Rite One).
10:30 a.m. - Sung Holy Eucharist using modern language (Rite Two). This service includes congregational hymns; chant & metrical settings of the Psalms; and anthems, all led by choir, organ, and sometimes other, traditional instrumentation.
Each liturgy is followed by a time of fellowship over coffee, tea, juice and snacks. If you are new, please plan to join us so we can get to know you and make you welcome here.
Many Sundays include an adult Christian formation gathering at 9:30 a.m. Check this month's announcements for the exact schedule.
We also worship on Wednesday mornings at 11:00 a.m. (a simple, traditional language Eucharist) in the Chapel over the Parish Hall. At other times we offer Bible study, Inquirer's Courses (for newcomers to the Episcopal tradition), classes in theology, natural spirituality, music, and social gatherings.
Beginning in the fall of 2013, we are offering a Christian formation program, including Children's Choir and a simple meal, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. many Wednesday evenings. Check the announcements for dates & details.
